Happy New Year!

Well it's been a while since I have updated the blog. It's been a pretty busy holiday season, and we're still feeling the effects. We have one more Christmas party to attend on Saturday and then Christmas is dunzo for this year. I have to say, I'm looking forward to it. Christmas has always been a stressful time for us as we have multiple (and I mean MULTIPLE) parties and houses to attend. I would much rather just stay at our house. I don't mean to sound like the grinch, it's just too much running around. I'd be fine with everyone coming to our house. Bella got a ton of toys for Christmas. She got a lot of big toys: a slide, a kitchen set, a toddler cleaning cart equipped with a vacuum, broom, mop, and dust broom, and a toddler basketball hoop. That's just to name a few. Our issue now is where to put it all.

The last weekend in January, a friend of ours will be moving in for a while. He just got a job, his dream job, at a golf course in Verona and needed a place to crash while he still paid rent at his house in Milwaukee. It's going to be different living with a roommate again, and I hope it works out. I don't have a very good track record with getting along with roommates, even if they are friends. The last roommate I had, I didn't talk to him for a year after we moved out. Eeeek. I know it's 75% me because I am very particular about things and I really don't like germs. I'm not as bad as Howie Mandel, but sometimes I think I get pretty close. That makes it really difficult for me to live with anyone... or anyone to live with me. I can overlook a lot of things with my husband and my daughter because they are everything to me and I see their germs as my germs. (I even have a problem with my parents and sister.) It's a problem, I know, but I don't know how to fix it. But that is not why I mentioned the whole roommate thing. Because we are getting a roomie, we have to finish our basement. We had been talking about it for a long time, but never did anything about it. Jeff moving in was our 'kick-in-the-pants' to get it done. We were originally going to just finish up the two bedrooms in the basement and then put up drywall in the living room area. But my contractor/carpenter father talked us into adding a bathroom so our friend could have a bathroom to himself. We agreed, but that added a HUGE issue to the budget we had already depleted. Thank goodness it's almost tax return season!

I always think that remodeling is going to be quick and easy. Man am I dumb! We redid our upstairs guest bathroom this summer and it only took a week total and Dan and I were at each other's throats the whole time. We get so stressed out and just take it out on each other. It's bad. Well, the basement is no exception. We started last week on the 27th and I foresee it lasting at least until the end of January. Remember all those big toys Bella got? Well, they are just hanging out in our living room and her bedroom where there is just no room for it all. That stresses me out because I can't clean my house and there is stuff everywhere. It stresses Dan out because the house is a mess and he doesn't get to spend any time with Bella at night when he gets home because he has to go straight downstairs and work. I'm sure it's annoying for my dad because I keep annoying him about when he thinks the project will be done. It's just sucky for everyone involved. But, I'm hoping it will get done soon and we can enjoy being a family again.

With all that being said, Dan and I need a date night... soon... and real bad. We don't get a chance to do things together except maybe once every 4 months or longer. (I'm not counting our photobooth job as time we spend together.) We need a night to go out to eat and a movie and not talk about the house or things that we fight about. But I feel guilty about not taking Bella. She hasn't been able to see her Daddy for a long time and she needs him more. I'll just keep telling myself that the basement will be done soon and we can get back to normal family life (plus roommate) again.

The last post I wrote that I was hoping for a teacher/craft room for Christmas... I'm getting my wish! I'll post pictures when it's done. (I also wanted a Kindle Fire, which has now changed to me wanting a Nook Tablet, but I don't see that in my immediate future. My birthday is in January, but I'm pretty sure I'm getting construction supplies for that. Boo.)

I'll leave you with my New Year's Resolutions for 2012.

* Drink less pop. I want to cut it back to 1 per week.
* Post a dessert recipe once a week on my new blog. Check it out!
* Keep a diary of sorts for 2012. I'll post a link to what I'm doing here.

I hope everyone enjoys their 2012. I think all in all it's going to be a great year!
